Frank, I like the idea of coloured pebbles on the borders. Might copy that idea.
Does it stop or slow weeds coming through ?

What i did gary was weed prior to anything else and then dressed top with roundup. You then layer the stones about 2 inch deep and weed as necessary. But you must keep up with weeding first season now i have minimal weeds that grow through also stems of weeds are not strong as they need grow long to get to daylight.

This makes them easy to pull out.I think it is great and makes the garden easy to maintain.Best of luck and let me know how you get on and maybe some pictures.

:)

Frank if you use round up on soil, how long before you can plant in soil ?

The shrubs you see in pictures gary are mature and i cut back each year.I cut a continual border around garden few years ago.THen i used round up after weeding diluted to instructions about foot away from any shrub so as not to contaminate them.As there are no plants between the mature shrubs i did not have to worry. Also stones are of a good depth so any weed stems are very spindly.

Hope that helps

I got a flyer today and so did my son. Cos of my wrists I struggle a bit so son helps me now and then with the gardening.
We cut the grass front and back and turned soil and put a bit of compost in. W e swilled patio with pathclear and put a couple of new plants in.
The garden smelled and looked great....then the best thing of all happened...it started chucking it down.
Now what can be a greater feeling than aman knowing he has done his bit in the garden just before the rain comes ha !
The rain stopped and I went into the garden and sat and listened to the Blackbirds singing. great or what. You don't get that in Cyprus !
Gary, Know what I mean Frank ?

Grass won't stop growing in my little pot for the dogs - trouble is they don't like English grass  I don't think it is sweet enough for them, either that or it is just because it is in a pot and they know they don't touch pots, even though I have tried training them to take it, if one has an upset tummy I have to cut it and feed the grass to them  .

On another matter we have planted chilli peppers, bell peppers and wow are they growing - now just wondering whether because they are close together we will bite into a bell pepper to find it is an extremely large chilli pepper :mental:

Spring onions - soon be time to pull up the first ones, green beans - fantastic, beetroots growing nicely considering they have been in less than a week - from seed I might add, also mange tout and they have been in even less than the beetroots.  Can't believe that seeds can germinate so quickly. At least now I know that we can grow peppers from seed, no need to worry about buying plug plants - although considering they were only 20c a plant, on one plant alone I must have about 5 euro's worth :surprise: Will be leaving it up to Steve to work out how to let the mange tout go to seed as I love that so much but at 12 euro a kilo it is something we can do without, but free luverly jubbly   .

Good to hear it Frank, unfortunately all my spring onions disappeared - Candy thought it was nice fresh grass and pulled them all out - then spat them out ;Banging head:
